The Garden 04:02
The gods care not for the plight of man They idle in worlds beyond our span The almighty forces on high wash their hands of responsibility Though it is within their power to intervene, they choose to abstain So pray not to Zeus for guidance and ask Poseidon not for protection We must look to each other, and within ourselves Come into the garden we’ll walk a while The heaven and earth we will reconcile The gods care not for the plight of man And it’s become clear that they have no plan It is naive to put our faith in egocentric deities And it is arrogant of them to speak of the human condition Though they claim to have our interests at heart There is precious little evidence of the fact Come into the garden we’ll walk a while The heaven and earth we will reconcile

When I get the bus I always sit on the top deck where I can observe the crusted filth and beer cans on the roofs of the shelters It’s 4pm and I’ve done nothing with my day And mists of gloom snake all through the living room All the stars are aligned All my ducks in a row Making angels in the snow Placated Temporarily scatter the wasps in my brain But soon they’ll swarm again I am the host of my own personal talk show with carefully selected questions to employ in times of conversational stall Oh I just can’t wait to be dead I’ll sleep easy tonight safe in the knowledge that I’ve done over three things today. All the stars are aligned All my ducks in a row Making angels in the snow Placated Temporarily scatter the wasps in my brain But soon they’ll swarm again I’d like to teach English as a foreign language I like to think of myself as engaging But I didn’t go to university And I don’t have the necessary papers
